Items Discussed:
1. Cold testing
- Viscometer to arrive late this week
- Testing Idea:
- Place instrument at 4C and see if it works
- Let it warm up and start series at room temp. Use live culture in pressure pot to test system end-to-end. Do again with treatment 1 and trtmnt 2
- Drop temperature and repeat.
Test Matrix:

- We should plumb all three (5, 10, 15%) at once and change mission to pull from each for each run
- Before each run, pull out samples to run on bench for comparison. These will only be HAB arrays, (no DA).
- Initially think this will be on MACK.
2. Upgrade of NEO
There is strong argument to change NEO tombstone for a 'regular' MFB. We have our eyes on MFB4 to mount on NEO but dependent on what Harvard needs.
Patty at Caltech plans to use MFB to do multiplexing, but when is unknown.
Are there any holes in Methane Mound data, as they'll need MFB to fill. Unknown, but probably a back-burner for them. Currently we don't know what contribution the instrumentation is making to the variation in the data. Gut feel is that we have endpoints and needn't worry about explaining away all variations we see. These will be point for future work, made in the discussion.
PLAN:
- Get MFB back from Caltech and prep it for Harvard.
- We WILL be swapping NEO's tombstone for an MFB.
3. Cores
1. Will place order for spares this week.
2. Repair Mack's hand
3. Must run standard curve with the few remaining arrays on Mack & Bruce
4. NEO needs checking out with necessary repairs and/or replacements
5. Finish Betty
6. Revalve Bruce?
- MOE and Neo will be in the Spring 2011 deployment (unless Betty is ready--she'll replace NEO)
- Bruce or Mack will be cold-test machines . One will go to WHOI.
4. Other issues:
- Must inspect all McLane pucks. Rejects to get sent back. Also must clarify the finish the pucks have with Ivory.
- We have a hoard of pucks that still need engraving.
- We need more HV puck testing. This could occur with the cold testing--Roman and Elif to work on together.
- All CTD's being sent back for service and calibration. Question; do we add an O2 optode or Clark Cell to our older Deep CTD? The goal for Deep is JdF, so what will work best there? Shallow CTD's to be sent out before Christmas. Need to decide about Deep CTD after the break. We have some time before the JdF cruise.
- Array Printer ; It WORKS! Priority will be HAB arrays. We need to block out time for ~150 arrays for WHOI and then ours. Can print max of 64/day. Chris P working on getting new/different BAC probs for the BAC arrays we will also print.
- Roman would like to lead a HAB BioSpace Paper. These data are on Tornado but hasn't been parsed the way Roman and Chris do it.
